I started SimpleDirect in 2019 with a simple financing product for contractors. It worked. 346K+ customers. $110M+ in loan requests processed. Still running today, still free.
But over six years of building technology in Canada, I kept running into the same question: where does my data actually live, and whose laws govern it? When your cloud provider operates in another country, the answer isn't always what you'd expect.
When I looked at AI — the most important technology shift of my lifetime — I saw an opportunity to do things differently. To build infrastructure in Canada, for Canadian organizations, where data residency and compliance aren't afterthoughts.
I decided to build the infrastructure I wished existed: AI that runs entirely on Canadian infrastructure, using open models, with full data residency and compliance built in.
